The Mavia pouch has been named after the Arab warrior-queen, who ruled over the Tanukhids, in southern Syria. Queen Mavia led her troops in a rebellion against the Roman rule, from which she came out victorious. The Romans later called upon her for assistance when being attacked by the Goths, to which she responded by sending a force of cavalry. Queen Mavia is considered to be the most powerful woman in the late antique Arabia, after Queen Zenobia.
All our pouches are handcrafted by our artisans in Syria. The patterned Damask Silk fabric has been woven by hand on a Jacquard loom. The Mavia pouch can be carried by hand or worn over the shoulder.
