The Zenobia pouch has been named after the powerful and cultured queen of the Palmyrene Empire in Syria. She was the regent of her son Vaballathus and held power throughout his reign. Zenobia launched an invasion which brought most of the Roman East under her sway. Her realm extended from Ancyra, central Anatolia, to southern Egypt. Zenobia declared her son emperor and assumed the title of empress, declaring Palmyra's secession from Rome. The Romans ended up victorious after heavy fighting; the queen was besieged in her capital and captured by Aurelian, the Roman Emperor, who exiled her to Rome, where she spent the remaining years of her life.
The pouch is part of our Amirat pouches collections. All our pouches are handcrafted by our artisans in Syria. The patterned Damask Silk fabric has been woven by hand on a Jacquard loom. The Zenobia pouch can be carried by hand or worn over the shoulder.
