The Shamsi pouch has been named after the Arabian queen Shamsi who was bold enough to rebelled against Assyrian King Tiglath Pileser III (745-727 B.C.) by refusing tribute and by giving aid to Damascus for an unsuccessful fight against Assyria. The Assyrian king captured her cities; she was forced to flee to the desert. Suffering, she surrendered and was forced to pay tribute to the king. Queen Shamsi was also known for leading embassies and trading with the Assyrian kings in spices and incense.
The pouch is part of our Amirat pouches collections. All our pouches are handcrafted by our artisans in Syria. The patterned Damask Silk fabric has been woven by hand on a Jacquard loom. The Shamsi pouch can be carried by hand or worn over the shoulder.
